Steps is a discipleship curriculum that we used in Godspeed home groups in the fall of 2017. Here is a summary of what Steps is about, which gives some perspective on how we understand Christian growth.
Steps is a gospel-centered recovery resource that takes people to the root of sin and suffering and leads them to embrace the freedom found only in Christ's redemption. Steps enables us to create a culture in which the ongoing practices of confession and repentance take root in the life of the church.
Most people hear the word recovery and think of major addictions. But we all wrestle with something: anger, gossip, greed.... To embrace the freedom found only in Christ's redemption, we must get to the root of sin and suffering.
There are three levels at which you can engage in Steps in your Home Group. First, you can just attend. You'll get plenty out of the course by being there, watching the video and engaging in discussion. Second, you can do the home work in the participants book. This will take you deeper into the Word and the work of the gospel. Third, you can do the assessment. This is an opportunity to work through sin in your life that God is calling you to put to death. You and your mentor will talk confidentially about sin, and about the steps to recovery.
As much as you put into Steps, you'll get out of it. Not because of the program, but because of the rich and transforming work of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Join us!
