Membership in the local church is intended to be a blessing both to you and to the church you are joining. It’s also a responsibility, both for you and for the church. As you consider joining Godspeed Church, we want to make clear what membership means, why it’s important, and the privileges and responsibilities that come with it.
The most important reason to join a local church is to bring glory to Jesus Christ, who is the head of the church and who is constantly building his church. When you join, you draw attention to him and his work of building the kingdom (Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:47).
The next reason to join is to identify yourself with the cause of Jesus—the Great Commission—and the basic beliefs of Christian doctrine (Matthew 28:18-20, Jude 3).
By joining a local church, you also place yourself in the important position of accountability, to all the members of the church and in a particular way to the elders, who are overseers of the “flock” and committed to the spiritual health of the church (Mathew 18:15-18; 1 Peter 5:1-3).
As members of Godspeed, we ask you to read carefully the Statement of Beliefs and the Covenant. As a Covenant member, you are agreeing to live by this covenant, as best as you can in the power of the Holy Spirit. Please feel free to discuss the details of either with an elder.
So if you are a true believer in Jesus Christ by faith, if you have demonstrated that faith in water baptism and if you want to be a part of the work God is doing in Godspeed, we’d love to have you! Membership means worshipping with us, growing in Christ with us and serving the Lord with us. As we like to say, we’re a family with a mission.
If you'd like to learn more about membership at Godspeed, or are interested in joining, we would love to talk with you about it. Please contact one of the elders.
